Campaign To Save Halloween

I may have learned it from my mother, Millie Pete, first.  And then it was reinforced by my first educational experience - Granny Gayle's Pre-School.  That lesson? Halloween is in October, Thanksgiving is in November, and Christmas is in December.  You trick-or-treat for one, make a decorative hand turkey for another, and leave out cookies and milk for Santa at the end of the season.

But as I've grown older retailers seemed to start placing their Christmas products out on shelves and aisles earlier and earlier, to the point I see Christmas decorations as early as August!  This has inspired me to start the CAMPAIGN TO SAVE HALLOWEEN!

It seems this has touched a goulish nerve.  Since launching the official site for the campaign, e-mails have been pouring in from Atlantans expressing their frustration over the onslaught of Christmas activity, from decorations to music, while they're still planning their Labor Day vacations!

And I quote:

Holiday War!!! If I should walk in a store with "Christmas" display, I'm going straight to a manager and pretend I am in another store. Like if I went to Targets and they have  "Christmas" displays, I'm going in there and telling the manager that for this to be a "Publix" I can't find one real pumpkin around this Christmas get up. (I know I'm in Targets, but I am calling it Publix.) They confused me, so I am confusing them. If they think I'm crazy, well they are crazy for having Christmas in September!

Here's another:

All of my life I have wondered why everyone skips over Thanksgiving and goes straight to Christmas after Halloween is over. I will not let Halloween suffer the same fate! Damn you Santa!

And finally:

Keep up the fight.  You're doing God's work... and by God, I of course mean the Great Pumpkin.

It seems simple to me....retail managers look at your At-A-Glance calendars and see the pre-printed holidays on their respective days.  Wait until that holiday is over to begin hocking your goods for the next holiday.  Millie Pete and Granny Gayle taught me so.

If we don't remedy this soon, companies will have to reprint the Advent calendar to add 120 EXTRA days!!

SAVE HALLOWEEN!

I totally agree. i hate that a certain radio station starts playing Christmas music the week of Thanksgiving. That's initially how i came across The Bert Show, i was converted after just one show. Let's keep every holiday in their respective month!!!

I was listening to the bert show this morning, and it was painful to hear the4 talk on Haloween.. You guys need to find another source of information (sounds like your only source is conservative fundy influenced sources). For example it was stated that one school banned all CHristian holidays (in a voice that it was horrible).. This is the wording the religious right fundys use.. In reality, it is a political issue between people who want to turn America into a therocracy, and those wanting freedom (of religion).. Freedom of religion demands that the public schools do not feel like a christian church to Muslims, Jews, atheists, agnostics, etc (when you add up all the minorities, it is a significant number, and going with what the majority wants makes it a christian event).. You guys kepy complaining that just because "one" person complains.. etc.. this is the proverbial "one." In the case of the halloween complainers, I believe it is the fundy christians in theis particular case (its basically one religion ahgainat another, since the day is basically a religious holiday).
As for halloween, it originated as all hallows (google it or go to afsforum at yahoogroups and ask). For separation of church and state go to au.org (rev. Barry lynn).. I will not be monitoring this website for discussion (I am on AFS forum)..

I know I am no rocket scientist, but what the hell are you talking about??? Melissa want people to celebrate Halloween, she isn't complaining about the other holiday's. I listen to the Bert Show almost every morning and did not hear anything about separation of church and state or the Christian stance on Halloween vs Christmas. Nor do I think she was addressing the religious "All Hallows Eve" Halloween, but the fun, dress up, kid holiday it has become. So correct me if I am wrong Melissa, but your comments have nothing to do with her campaign to save Halloween. And as a Christian, please to do not speak for all of us, if that is what you are doing. Thank you, that is all.

Hey Melissa I just wanted to comment on seeing an ad for ROSS Department stores on November 2, 2007 going over their "Christmas" stuff with the wording covered in snow with a "santa" cap on it....It made me sick! How desperate are they?...Please mention/ridicule them for commercializing a holiday.

    That is it

Do we really have nothing else to gripe about? Like the holiday with candy flowing freely is ever going anywhere.

Now can we please start a website to save the country.
