Ends Up I'm iDumb

So over the holiday I got an Apple iTouch.  Reason? I refused to get an evil Blackberry, but still wanted to be able to check my e-mail while out and about (and waiting), like when I go to Piedmont Hospital for my lab work.

I already have a great phone service, and didn't want to switch, so I chose the iTouch - basically an iPhone without the phone.  Having been an Apple-head since college, I am always happy to buy Mac products.

However.  I think I'm now iDumb.

That's because I cannot seem to connect to the Internet while I'm out and about (and waiting) which has reduced my iTouch to a music player.  I already have my iPod Video, which holds SO much more than the iTouch, and never intended my iTouch to be anything but an Internet browser.

Why can't I connect to the Internet? Either I find no service, or fail to have the proper password to lampr3's WiFi connection.

So how can I get my own WiFi connection, so others can shake their fist in the air at wondering what clever password melissasitouchrage has created?

Help.

UPDATE:  So since I posted this, miraculously there is an open WiFi signal at my place, at work, when I went to get a pedi recently......weird.  My iTouch even reads my blog.

If there's no wi-fi hotspot available where you want to connect, you're screwed.

If there IS a hotspot and you still can't log on, go fiddle with the Network preferences.

Try going someplace where you know they have free wireless and see if you can log on, like a coffee shop: http://www.wififreespot.com/ga.html
