It's Good To Be Geek

Coming off the high of Iron Man this past weekend, George Takei called into the Bert Show for our "Who Do You Know?" contest.  And despite the slight ribbing from my co-horts, I realized just how good it is to be a geek right now.  Hollywood has totally embraced all-things comics, sci-fi, and fantasy which has resulted in my social calendar being inked with movie theatre appearances.  Just take a look at the current list of what's coming out:

Speed Racer - this weekend
Wanted - June 27th
The Chronicles of Narnia:  Prince Caspian - May 16th
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - May  22nd
The Incredible Hulk - June 13th
The Happening - June 13th
Hancock - July 2nd
Hellboy 2:  The Golden Army - July 11th
Journey To The Center Of The Earth - July 11th
The Dark Knight:  July 18th
The X-Files:  I Want To Believe - July 25th
The Mummy:  Tomb of the Dragon Emporer - August 1st
Star Wars:  The Clone Wars - August 15th
Superman:  Man of Steel - 2009
Iron Man 2 - April 2010
Thor - June 2010
Captain America - May 2011
The Angengers - June 2011
Ant-Man, Hulk, Spiderman 4 - In development

Whew.

With all the money many of these movies bring in, it's almost as if we are now the powerful...cool...ones.  AHA!

So, I am slowly pulling out my Marvel, DC, and Xena t-shirts, as well as my comics and graphic novels, from those boxes in the corner of the closet.   And if my girlfriend starts giving me a hard time, or starts donating these items to charity while I'm at work, I'm going to see what Super Villain she is. By the way, I took the Superhero Quiz.  You can refer to me from now on as The Green Lantern.

I love sci-fi, comic book and fantasy movies myself. What I don't like is how a lot of comic book movies degrade women. My boyfriend...actually I just got engaged Sunday..so my fiance and I (hehe) just went to see Ironman and walked out within the first 20 minutes about when the flight attendants started taking of their shirts and dancing around a stripper's pole on the plane...I mean really?...why is all that crap necessary...that was after the scene where he basically told a reporter that he wanted to sleep with her during his interview...I just want to be able to see a good movie without having to put up with this degrading crap.
