Red Tent Jewelry

News is so accessible to the common man and woman nowadays, that few stories can make your sit mouth agape.

Such was the case in studio this morning, when I read a story about Red Tent Jewelry.

Apparently, Red Tent Jewelry is a way for mothers to celebrate their daughter's entering womanhood.  In other words, when a young awkward girl starts her period, Mom buys her jewelry so everyone will know while she is suffering through her first cramps.  Gee, all I had was Are You There, God, It's Me Margaret.

Take a look at the collection here....

Actually, the earrings you've linked to are not specifically for menarche (a young woman's first period). These earrings are for any woman who either wishes to embrace her cycle, or to give a not entirely subtle hint for others to leave her alone!

A sweet, subtle gift for a girl's first period is our garnet & silver bracelet, which can be found here:

The focus of Red Tent Jewelry is to encourage a healthy, positive attitude toward menstruation, and we believe that celebrating a young woman's menarche as an important event (whether with a simple, private gift or a full blown party), is a great way to start her womanhood journey.

Dear God! I've heard it all now! I mean come on! Is anything private and sacred anymore? One minute we shout for equal rights, the next we are exploiting our daughter's right of passage into womanhood? My yorkie's poop was in the shape of Texas last time I looked, is anybody interested? Got to go clean out my jewelry box and throw away red dangly ear rings! Thank God for the Change of Life! Love you M!
